Peskov: Turkey's desire to place a monitoring center in Karabakh differs from the vision of the Russian Federation

Turkey's statement on the location of the monitoring center in Karabakh is at odds with the Kremlin's presentation, Russian President's press secretary Dmitry Peskov said.

"It doesn't correspond to our understanding," he said, commenting on the statement of the Turkish President's office in a conversation with journalists on Wednesday that the ceasefire monitoring center in Karabakh is planned to be located on the territory occupied by Azerbaijan.

Peskov specified that the center should be located on the native territory of Azerbaijan.

The press service of the Azerbaijani president reported on Tuesday that the leaders of Azerbaijan and Turkey Ilham Aliyev and Recep Tayyip Erdogan discussed the situation around the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and the creation of a "Turkish-Russian peacekeeping center" in the region.

On the same day Peskov told journalists that the establishment of a monitoring center in Nagorno-Karabakh is not specified in the joint statement of leaders of Azerbaijan, Armenia and Russia on a ceasefire and its conditions, but "is the subject of a separate agreement". Answering the question, which territory is mentioned in connection with the possible establishment of the center, he stressed that "this is not Karabakh". According to the press secretary of the Russian president, the presence of Turkish peacekeepers in Nagorno-Karabakh is not envisaged.
