The Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), banned and recognized as a terrorist organization in Turkey, has claimed responsibility for the October 23 attack in Ankara, according to Turkish broadcaster Sözcü, citing a statement from the PKK.
The statement claims that the attack was carried out by members of the so-called "Immortal Battalion," identified as the PKK's militant wing. It is asserted that the attack was planned over an extended period and is not connected to any recent domestic political developments, including the Turkish government's initiatives aimed at resolving the Kurdish issue.
The conflict between Turkey and the PKK has persisted since 1984, with Turkish authorities viewing the PKK as a national security threat and conducting frequent raids against its supporters domestically, as well as cross-border operations in northern Iraq and Syria.
