The government of the Syrian Arab Republic (SAR) shows that it is ready to promote civil reconciliation in the country through concrete cases, Russian First Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations Dmitry Polyanskiy said on Wednesday.

"Damascus is showing its willingness to promote civil reconciliation with concrete deeds, to work on the track of detainees and missing persons. In other words, the Syrian government is working to implement Security Council Resolution 2254," he said during a UN Security Council meeting.

Polyanskiy also highlighted Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's decree "to grant amnesty to Syrian citizens convicted of terrorist activities and crimes committed before April 30, 2022, except for acts that resulted in death." "Such a decision by the SAR leadership, in addition to the January amnesty for military service evaders, creates a favorable climate for the return of Syrian citizens to their homeland," he stressed.
