During the visit to Baghdad, Mikhail Bogdanov, the Special Representative of the President of the Russian Federation for the Middle East and Africa, Deputy Foreign Minister of Russia was hosted by Barham Saleh, the President of Iraq.
In addition, the Russian diplomat held meetings with the Chairman of the Council of Representatives (Parliament) of Iraq, Mohammed al-Halbousi, and with Iraqi Prime Minister Adil Abdul-Mahdi.
During the talks, the sides have discussed a set of issues for the further development of mutually beneficial cooperation between Russia and Iraq in various fields.
In particular, the practical aspects of the preparation of the 8th meeting of the Russian-Iraqi Commission on trade, economic and scientific-technical cooperation, which is scheduled to be held in Baghdad at the end of April of this year are considered.
Special attention was paid to the current Middle Eastern issues.
It was highlighted the importance of consolidating efforts with a view to preventing the escalation of military-political tensions in the region.
