President of Algeria Abdelmadjid Tebboune will visit Russia after the normalization of the situation with the coronavirus, Russian Ambassador to the Arab Republic Igor Belyaev told RIA Novosti.
"On the sidelines of the international conference on Libya held in Berlin in January 2020, the first direct contact took place between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, during which the Algerian leader received an invitation to pay an official visit to Russia. This invitation remains in force, it will be implemented after the normalization of the epidemiological situation in both countries," Belyaev said, in particular, when asked about the upcoming contacts between the leaders of the two countries.
The Russian diplomat recalled that the Russian Federation and Algeria have traditionally friendly relations, elevated to the rank of a strategic partnership after the signing of the corresponding Declaration in 2001.
"Our country has provided assistance to Algeria in its struggle for independence, in the formation of the Algerian state, the development of national industry, and the training of qualified personnel in various specialties. Close productive interaction continues at the present time. Russia always strives to help its friends, especially in difficult times, " the Agency quoted the diplomat as saying.
The special nature of bilateral relations between Russia and Algeria, Belyaev noted, did not allow Moscow to ignore the request of the Algerian leadership for assistance in the fight against the coronavirus infection.
"In April, a Russian cargo plane delivered free medical care purchased at the expense of Rosoboronexport (medical equipment, protective equipment, etc.) to Algeria. Algeria firmly holds the position of one of Russia's leading trade and economic partners in Africa and the Arab world," the Russian diplomat said.
