President of Egypt looks forward to renew hope of Palestinians in achieving peace

Egypt  is looking forward to renewing the hope of the Palestinian people in achieving peace and obtaining their legitimate rights according to international references, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi said on Monday evening during a telephone conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Yair Lapid, the MENA news agency reported. 


Egypt is looking forward to renewing the hope of the Palestinian people in achieving peace and obtaining their legitimate rights according to international references, which imposes the inevitability of ending the violence and repeated escalation," the MENA news agency quoted el-Sisi as saying. The sides also discussed Egypt's mediation role, which made it possible to reach a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip. 


According to el-Sisi, "Egypt made unremitting and focused efforts to contain the situation on the ground and to prevent the expansion of the confrontation and the increase in military actions." He asserted the necessity to take immediate steps to improve the living situation in the Gaza Strip."


On August 5, the Israeli army announced the beginning of the Operation Breaking Dawn against the Islamic Jihad in Gaza. On August 7 the Israeli authorities confirmed that with the mediation of Egypt it was possible to reach an agreement which would allow to start a cease-fire regime in the Gaza Strip from 23:30 (Moscow time) of the same day. Israel reserved the right to use force if the agreement was violated.
