The Kazakh side looks forward to strengthening strategic partnership and developing cooperation with Kyrgyzstan, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev said on Thursday in Bishkek during a meeting with Kyrgyzstan's leader Sadyr Zhaparov.

"This visit has special significance. I am sure it will strengthen our strategic partnership and give a strong impetus to further cooperation between our countries. There is no doubt that Kyrgyzstan is the closest state for Kazakhstan in all respects," Tokayev's press service quotes him as saying.

He also reminded that this year marks the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the countries. "During this period, the horizons of interaction have expanded and our friendship has become even stronger. Political dialogue based on mutual trust has been established at all levels. Interstate, interparliamentary and intergovernmental councils function. Close coordination has been established between the foreign ministries of the two countries. I would like to note that Kazakhstan has established such strong ties only with the Kyrgyz Republic," said the head of state.

The president of Kyrgyzstan, in turn, expressed confidence that the talks will make a significant contribution to the development of cooperation between the two countries. "Our brotherly countries cooperate closely. There are no misunderstandings between our states, even at the regional level. Our relations are developing in the spirit of absolute friendship," Zhaparov was quoted as saying by the press service of the president of Kazakhstan.

In addition, the leaders discussed a wide range of issues of bilateral strategic partnership, paying special attention to the expansion of ties in the political, trade and economic, cultural and humanitarian spheres. "Along with this, problems of the regional agenda were considered. The presidents also noted the mutual interest in strengthening cultural and humanitarian contacts between Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan," the statement reads.
