Moscow is the main strategic ally of Bishkek, President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Zhaparov said Thursday at a meeting with Russian leader Vladimir Putin on the margins of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit.

"Russia is traditionally our leading trade and economic partner and our main strategic ally," Zhaparov said. He added that he was very glad to see Putin.

The president of Kyrgyzstan noted the growth rate of trade turnover between the two countries and the successful implementation of investment projects with the support of the bilateral development fund. "The fund has approved 3,200 projects worth $440 million," Zhaparov explained.

He also drew attention to the work on creating Russian-language schools in Kyrgyzstan.

"I am sure that our meeting today will promote the strengthening of further mutually beneficial cooperation between Russia and Kyrgyzstan," Zhaparov concluded.
