President of Kyrgyzstan Highlights Importance of Russian Language in the Country

24 June

The Russian language, which holds official status in Kyrgyzstan, continues to play a crucial role in the republic, stated President Sadyr Zhaparov in his address to the delegates of the 10th Assembly of the People of Kyrgyzstan.

"The activities of the Assembly are supported at the state level. Conditions have been created for the preservation and development of native languages, cultures, and traditions of the ethnic communities living in the Kyrgyz Republic. At the same time, the Russian language continues to play an important role as the official language," said the statement published by the presidential press service.

Zhaparov believes that knowing multiple languages makes a person more spiritually developed. "As the saying goes, the more languages you know, the more times you are a person. Through language, we not only communicate but also enrich ourselves spiritually and culturally," he continued.

The president also emphasized the necessity of promoting the formation of a Kyrgyz citizen who is proficient in the state, native, official, and foreign languages. He proposed developing multilingual education in the republic, calling it a "requirement of our time."

In Kyrgyzstan, the state language is Kyrgyz, while Russian holds the status of an official language.

The Assembly of the People of Kyrgyzstan includes cultural associations of various ethnic communities residing in the country, such as Russians, Ukrainians, Tatars, Koreans, Dungans, Uzbeks, and Uyghurs.
