President of Kyrgyzstan signed a decree on holding parliamentary elections on October 4

Kyrgyz President Sooronbay Jeenbekov signed a decree on Friday on holding elections to the country's unicameral Parliament in October. The message was published by the press service of the head of state.


"The President signed a decree "On the appointment of elections of deputies of the Jogorku Kenesh (Supreme Council-ed.) of the Kyrgyz Republic", the text says. The vote is due to take place on October 4.


Jeenbekov instructed the Central Election Committee to "organize elections in accordance with the law", and instructed the government to allocate "the necessary financial resources for holding elections in accordance with the cost estimates". The Cabinet of Ministers is also responsible for ensuring "the legality, rights and freedoms of citizens, sanitary and epidemiological safety and health protection" of people in the conditions of the spread of the coronavirus.


"Heads of local state administrations, mayors of the cities of Bishkek and Osh, heads of executive bodies of local self-government should assist in the work of the relevant bodies and election commissions in forming, updating the list of voters, resolving organizational and technical issues in the preparation and conduct of elections," the decree, which officially came into force from the moment of publication, reads.


Elections to the 120-seat Supreme legislative body of Kyrgyzstan are held on party lists. Part of the current deputies is composed of representatives of six political forces.
