President of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov during a visit to Turkmenistan held a meeting with the Leaders of the Tatar community of the Republic.
About three dozens of the most active and famous Tatars took part in the meeting, who told about the life of the community in the Central Asian republic.
Minnikhanov, in turn, told about the current socio-economic situation in Tatarstan, the prospects for developing relations with Turkmenistan and measures to support the Tatar language and culture.
It is worth noting that the first migrants from among Tatar merchants on the territory of modern Turkmenistan appeared as a result of trade relations. In addition, a large number of Tatars moved to Turkmenistan in the years of the USSR. After the collapse of the Soviet Union, there were about 15 thousand Tatars in the republic.
