President of Senegal, Chairman of the African Union (AU) Macky Sall will arrive on Thursday on an official visit to Russia and intends to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Sochi on June 3. The Senegalese Press Agency reported this, citing a press release from the African country's government.
"At the invitation of Russian President Vladimir Putin, President of Senegal and current Chairman of the African Union Macky Sall will be in Russia from June 2," it reads. According to the press release, Sall will be received by Russian President Vladimir Putin on June 3 in Sochi. He will be accompanied by Moussa Faki Mahamat, Chairman of the African Union Commission.
The decision on Sall's current trip to Russia was made during a May 10 meeting of the African Union's expanded bureau. "The trip fits in with the AU chairman's efforts to help resolve the conflict in Ukraine as well as unblock the grain and fertilizer situation that is negatively affecting African countries," the agency quoted AU officials as saying.
From Sochi, Macky Sall will travel to Ghana's capital city of Accra, where an extraordinary summit of the Economic Community of West Africa will be held on June 4. The agenda includes issues of relations with the current military leadership of Mali, Guinea and Burkina Faso.
