President of Tajikistan Travels to St. Petersburg for Informal Meeting of CIS Leaders

25 December 2023

Tajikistan's President Emomali Rahmon has embarked on a working visit to St. Petersburg to participate in an informal meeting of leaders of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), as reported by the presidential press service.

"Emomali Rahmon departed for St. Petersburg in the Russian Federation to participate in an informal meeting of heads of state - members of the Commonwealth of Independent States," the press release stated.

Rahmon is accompanied on the trip by an aide for foreign relations and other officials.

Scheduled for December 25 and 26, the informal summit of CIS leaders follows a traditional format of communication among heads of state, who have been convening in St. Petersburg in the last days of December for many years. Russian President Vladimir Putin characterizes these summits as "conversations in a friendly circle," focusing on a business-oriented agenda that covers both regional and international topics.
