President of Turkmenistan invited President of Tajikistan to visit his country

President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov has invited President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon to visit his country. Neytralny Turkmenistan reported this on Thursday, following talks between the two countries' leaders in Dushanbe the day before.


According to the newspaper, Rahmon accepted the invitation. The dates of the visit will be agreed through diplomatic channels.


The leader of Tajikistan also recalled that Chairman of the Majlisi Milli (upper house) of Tajikistan's Majlisi Oli (parliament) Rustami Emomali visited Turkmenistan for the first time in May 2022. Rahmon said Turkmen National Leader and Chairman of the Khalk Maslakhaty (People's Council) Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov is also expected to pay an official visit to Tajikistan.


Serdar Berdimuhamedov will pay a state visit to Tajikistan on May 10-11. This is the Turkmen leader's first state visit to that country. Rahmon called the visit a landmark event on the 30th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations between the two countries.


Tajikistan and Turkmenistan established diplomatic relations in January 1993, the legal framework is more than 100 documents in various fields. There is an intergovernmental commission on trade-economic and scientific-technical cooperation, the last meeting of which was held in November 2022 in Ashgabat.
