President of Venezuela calls on OPEC+ to ensure oil prices stay around $100

15 September 2022

OPEC+ countries must guarantee oil prices around $100 a barrel to ensure the stability of the world economy, Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro said on Wednesday.

"In the face of the terrible threats posed by the fall and winter seasons in the West, <...> we in OPEC+ could send a message of stability and take all necessary measures to keep oil prices at a fair, needed and balanced level of around $100 per barrel," he said during his speech, which was broadcast on Venezolana de Televisión.
Maduro asked OPEC Secretary-General Haitham al-Ghais, who is visiting Venezuela, to convey the Caracas proposal to other oil-exporting countries.

According to the Venezuelan president, responsibility for the energy crisis that has endangered world stability lies with the US and European countries, which have launched a "sanctions war against Russia." "We can see that Europeans have already taken to the streets protesting against the irrationality of the sanctions policy. Europe is doomed to lose this war against Russia," he believes.

Maduro said Venezuela is "ready to become a stable and reliable supplier of gas and oil, which the world economy needs." "Venezuela has more than 50 first-class gas projects with seismic studies and with all the legal guarantees for foreign investors. Let them come from Russia, Iran, China, Kuwait, Colombia, Mexico, Argentina, anywhere," he added.
