17 April 2023

Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi has sent a written invitation to Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud to visit Tehran, Nasser Kanani, the spokesman for the Iranian MFA, said on Monday.

"The president received an invitation from the king of Saudi Arabia [to visit Riyadh] and also sent the monarch a written invitation [to visit Tehran]," Tasnim quoted him as saying.

Kanani also noted that Iran and Saudi Arabia aim to implement agreements and strengthen trade and economic cooperation between the two states.

On March 19, it became known that the king of Saudi Arabia invited the president of Iran to visit Riyadh. On April 3, First Vice President of the Islamic Republic Mohammad Mokhber told Mehr that Raisi accepted the invitation.

On March 10, Saudi Arabia and Iran agreed to restore diplomatic relations and reopen embassies within two months. Representatives of the two countries negotiated for several days in Beijing, which resulted in a trilateral statement.
