Presidents of Russia and Turkey discussed the Middle East

Vladimir Putin had a telephone conversation with President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan. According to the press service of the Kremlin, the parties discussed the settlement in Libya and  Syria.


"Both sides reaffirmed their willingness to assist in establishing inter-Libyan contacts," the message reads.


In addition, Putin and Erdogan expressed support for the UN and Germany’s mediation efforts to end the armed conflict and resume a peaceful dialogue. 


The presidents also "exchanged views on Syria, including in the context of Russian-Turkish agreements to stabilize Idlib and the northeast parts of Syria". The importance of building up joint efforts to combat terrorist groups was emphasized.
