12 February 2020

Vladimir Putin had a telephone conversation with President of the Republic of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan. The main topic of discussion, as reported in the Kremlin, was the Syrian settlement, including in the context of the recent aggravation in the Idlib de-escalation zone.

"The parties continued the discussion regarding various aspects of the Syrian peace process, primarily in the context of the recent aggravation in the Idlib de-escalation zone. They also noted the importance of the full implementation of the existing Russian-Turkish agreements, including the Sochi Memorandum of September 17, 2018," the message reads.

The heads of state, as noted, agreed to plan additional contacts between the relevant government agencies.

The situation in Idlib has worsened after the Russian and Turkish military made another attempt to implement the ceasefire but the terrorists have increased their attacks. As a result, military specialists from Russia and Turkey were killed.
