The border between Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan is more than 980 km long, with dozens of disputed areas remaining after the collapse of the Soviet Union. Disputes and conflicts arise from time to time in some border areas. The last escalation occurred on September 14, 2022, with clashes in parts of the border lasting until September 17. Both sides reported casualties and damage. After several rounds of talks, on September 25 the parties signed a protocol to stabilize the situation. Topographical working groups of government delegations are working to determine the borderline between the countries.
