On 15 November 2022, the International Conference “Orthodoxy and Islam – Inter-Confessional Dialogue in Achieving Global Peace” will be held at the Imperial Orthodox Palestinian Society Centre (Moscow).
The event is one of the key activities of the Group of Strategic Vision “Russia – Islamic World” to support a dialogue between religious, intellectual and cultural organizations.
The conference is organized by the Group of Strategic Vision together with the Imperial Orthodox Palestinian Society, the Permanent Mission of the Russian Federation to the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, as well as with the assistance of the Russian Orthodox Church and the Spiritual Administrations of Muslims of our country. Support was also provided by the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.
The in-person and online format of the meetings will be attended by prominent Russian and foreign political, public and religious figures, representatives of the academic community, in particular: Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation M.L. Bogdanov; Head of the Department for Interaction with Religious Organizations of the Russian Federation President’s Internal Policy Department, Chairman of the Board of the Islamic Culture, Science and Education Foundation Eremin E.V.; Chairman of the Imperial Orthodox Palestinian Society Stepashin S.V.; Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the Organization of Islamic Cooperation Abdulatipov R.G.; Permanent Representative of the Republic of Crimea to the President of the Russian Federation Muradov G.L.; Scientific Director of the Institute of Oriental Studies at the Russian Academy of Sciences Naumkin V.V.; Chairman of the Spiritual Administration of Muslims Tadzhuddin T.S.; Metropolitan of Kazan and Tatarstan Kirill (Nakonechny); President of the Academy of Sciences in the Chechen Republic Umarov D.V.; Chairman of the Spiritual Administration of Muslims of the Republic of Tatarstan Samigullin K.I.; Director of the Egyptian Council for Foreign Affairs Izzat Saad; Archbishop Theodosios of Sebastia, a hierarch of the Orthodox Church of Jerusalem; member of the Al-Azhar University Committee of Grand Scholars Sheikh Ali Juma (Egypt).
Representatives of the World Council of Muslim Communities (the UAE), Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO), the Interreligious Council of Russia, the World Assembly for the Convergence of Islamic Madhabs, the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the Bolgarian Islamic Academy and the Russian Islamic Institute will also be guests and participants of the conference.
The main aim of the conference is to consolidate the efforts of state, religious, public, educational and scientific structures in the development of the inter-confessional dialogue.
Participants are invited to consider the following topics for discussion: the Common Moral and Ethical Reference Points of Orthodox and Islam and the Threat of the Destruction of Traditional Morality and the Domination of Secular Values in the Life of Society; the Peacekeeping Mission of the Dialogue between Orthodoxy and Islam in the Context of Contemporary Global and Regional Conflicts; the Practical Issues of Institutionalizing Interreligious Dialogue: Russian and International Experience; the Role of the Interreligious Council of Russia in Developing New Approaches to Examining the Interaction between Representatives of Different Confessions; the Role of Religious Education in Developing Interreligious Dialogue between Orthodoxy and Islam; the Development of Social Projects Aimed at the Spiritual, Moral and Patriotic Education of Youth.
