Production of the Russian coronavirus vaccine "Sputnik V" will start in Kazakhstan from December 22 this year. This was reported by the press service of the President of Kazakhstan on Friday following the meeting of the head of the republic Kassym-Jomart Tokayev with Prime Minister Askar Mamin.

On 27 November, Kazakhstan's Healthcare Minister Alexei Tsoi said that the republic's authorities were working on the construction of a plant to produce the Russian coronavirus vaccine, and that possible sites were currently being studied. According to him, the possibility of placing the production of the Russian vaccine at the site of the existing pharmaceutical plant is being considered.
The Kazakh authorities are also considering the possibility of producing Russian coronavirus vaccine Sputnik V on the basis of the Karaganda Pharmaceutical Complex, the press service of the Ministry of Industry and Infrastructure Development told TASS. According to the press service, from December 25, 3 thousand volunteers will be vaccinated during the 3rd phase of clinical trials, and the trials will be completed in late March 2021. "The head of the state was informed that in December this year production of the first batch of domestic vaccine in the amount of 2 million doses would be launched", the report says.
It is reported that Tokayev thanked Mamin for the prompt execution of the order on vaccine production and noted the need for special control over the efficiency of the domestic vaccine and its accessibility to the population.
