Putin and Aliyev discussed the situation with people gathering in Dagestan on the border of Russia and Azerbaijan

During the telephone conversation, the presidents of Russia and Azerbaijan, Vladimir Putin and Ilham Aliyev, agreed to give instructions to relevant agencies on issues related to the accumulation of Azerbaijani citizens in the border areas of Dagestan.


The presidents discussed the complicated situation developing in the border areas of Daghestan, where a large number of Azerbaijani nationals are waiting for the opportunity to return to their home country. They agreed to instruct the respective ministries and agencies of the two countries to cooperate with local officials to promptly resolve all related issues," TASS quotes the Kremlin press-service.


Yesterday, the head of Dagestan Vladimir Vasiliev asked Putin to help synchronize the process of returning citizens of the Russian Federation and Azerbaijan, who can not cross the state border, because it is closed due to the pandemic.


As one of the measures, Vasiliev suggested that those wishing to cross the border should be allowed to pass in groups. Head of Rospotrebnadzor Anna Popova also noted that the accumulation of people in the border area on the territory of Dagestan complicates the situation with the coronavirus in this subject of the Russian Federation.


In mid-May, according to "Eto Kavkaz" ("This is the Caucasus") resource,  the Republican Department of the Ministry of emergency situations opened a temporary accommodation point for Azerbaijani citizens who were unable to leave Russia. The hospital has 15 tents for 210 people, as well as canteens.


The temporary accommodation and food point are equipped with two field kitchens, water carriers with drinking and technical water. There are also a fire station and a medical aid point on the basis of the Central district hospital of the Derbent district.
