Putin and Bennett discuss Syrian issues at talks in Sochi

28 October 2021

Russian president Vladimir Putin and Israeli prime minister Naftali Bennett discussed the Syrian issue at recent talks in Sochi, Russian leader's spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters on Thursday. He was asked about US media reports that Putin had allegedly asked Bennett to help ease US sanctions on Syria.

"The Syrian issue was discussed during recent contacts between the president and the prime minister," the Kremlin spokesman said in response.

Putin and Bennett's talks after the latter took office on June 13 took place on October 22. Peskov described the meeting, which lasted about five and a half hours, as a "constructive and trusting" conversation. On the same day, Bennett himself called the meeting with Putin "excellent" and the talks "deep and meaningful".
