Putin and Erdogan discussed the Middle East, the coronavirus and bilateral cooperation

Russian and Turkish presidents Vladimir Putin and Recep Tayyip Erdogan held telephone talks during which they discussed bilateral cooperation, including the development of the coronavirus vaccine, as well as the situation in the Middle East.


Speaking about the settlement in Syria, the two heads of state expressed their intention to intensify joint efforts to implement the Russian-Turkish agreements on Idlib.


"The parties continue to exchange views on the situation in the Syrian Arab Republic. They expressed common intention to intensify joint efforts to implement the Russian-Turkish agreements on the Idlib de-escalation zone, including the Additional Protocol to the Sochi Memorandum of September 17, 2018, adopted in Moscow on March 5, " the Kremlin's press service said.


In addition, the parties expressed concern about the escalation of fighting in Libya and noted the need for an early truce and dialogue.


"The need to resume the indefinite truce and inter - Libyan dialogue as soon as possible on the basis of the decisions of the Berlin international conference on January 19, approved by the 2510 UN Security Council resolution was stressed," the message reads.


The presidents of the two countries also touched upon cooperation, primarily on the development of vaccines.


"The topic of fighting the coronavirus pandemic was discussed in detail. The importance of further cooperation between the specialized structures of the two countries, including on the treatment of patients and the development of vaccines, was emphasized. The head of the Russian state thanked the Turkish partners for their assistance in returning home their compatriots who were in Turkey, as well as for providing humanitarian assistance to a number of Russian regions," the Kremlin reported.


As for bilateral trade and economic cooperation, Putin and Erdogan expressed interest in continuing regular dialogue at various levels."
