Putin and Lebanese Prime Minister discuss coronavirus vaccine supply

Russian President Vladimir Putin and Lebanese Prime Minister-designate Saad Hariri, who is visiting Moscow, have held a telephone conversation and touched on the topics of Russian supplies of coronavirus vaccines to the republic, the return of Syrian refugees and the internal political situation in Lebanon. This was reported by the Kremlin press service after the conversation between the leaders.


"Several topics of bilateral cooperation were touched upon with a focus on strengthening trade and economic ties and intensifying contacts between relevant agencies in the fight against coronavirus infection, including the supply of Russian vaccines to Lebanon," the statement said.


According to the Kremlin, Hariri informed Putin about the development of the internal political situation in Lebanon, the measures being taken to form a new government in the country and overcome the economic crisis. "The Russian side confirmed its principled position in support of Lebanon's sovereignty, independence, unity and territorial integrity," the statement said.


The leaders also discussed topical issues on the regional agenda. They also expressed readiness to work together to create favorable conditions for the safe return home of Syrian refugees living in Lebanon.


"The Russian president congratulated Saad Hariri and all Lebanese Muslims on the holy month of Ramadan," the Kremlin added.


Lebanon's Health Ministry approved the emergency use of the Russian Sputnik V vaccine on February 5, and at the end of the same month, it was announced that 20 private companies were authorized to negotiate with pharmaceutical companies that produce drugs against the coronavirus. The first shipment of the Russian drug was delivered to Beirut from the United Arab Emirates on March 25.
