Putin and Pezeshkian Discuss Syrian Crisis in Phone Call

02 December

Russian President Vladimir Putin held a phone conversation with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian to address the escalating crisis in Syria, according to the Kremlin's press service.

“The primary focus was on the worsening situation in the Syrian Arab Republic. The large-scale aggression by terrorist groups and armed factions has been deemed a direct attempt to undermine the sovereignty, political stability, and socio-economic foundation of the Syrian state,” the Kremlin stated.

Both leaders affirmed their unwavering support for Syria’s legitimate government in its efforts to restore constitutional order and uphold the country’s territorial integrity.

The conversation also highlighted the importance of coordinated actions within the Astana format, which includes Turkey, as a crucial mechanism for resolving the Syrian conflict.

The Kremlin reported that the presidents agreed on a roadmap for further interactions at both the presidential and other levels. Additionally, they discussed current issues related to advancing Russian-Iranian cooperation in various fields, building upon agreements made during their October 23 talks in Kazan.
