Tajik president Emomali Rahmon and Russian leader Vladimir Putin discussed regional security issues by telephone, with a focus on developments in Afghanistan, the press service of the head of the republic reported on Thursday.
"In the course of the conversation, the presidents continued a dialogue on certain aspects of bilateral cooperation and topical issues of ensuring regional security with a focus on the latest development of the situation in Afghanistan," the report said.
The press service also informed that Rahmon congratulated Putin on his birthday. "The leader of the nation highlighted the fruitful activities of the respected Vladimir Putin as president of the Russian Federation and his great contribution to the all-round development of Tajik-Russian relations of friendship and strategic partnership," the message said.
The Tajik president congratulated his Russian colleague on the success of the elections to the State Duma, the office of the head of the republic added.
