Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Tajikistan counterpart Emomali Rahmon will meet in Moscow on Saturday, May 8, to discuss, among other things, the situation on the Tajik-Kyrgyz border. This was reported on Friday by the Kremlin press service.
"An exchange of views on topical regional problems is planned, including the situation around Afghanistan and ensuring the stabilization of the situation on the Tajik-Kyrgyz border," the statement said.
Russian leader's spokesman Dmitry Peskov earlier reported that Rahmon's visit to Moscow was agreed upon even before the aggravation on the Tajikistan-Kyrgyzstan border.
It is noted that the leaders will also "discuss the state and prospects of mutually beneficial cooperation in trade, economic and humanitarian spheres, the issues of joint counteraction to the spread of coronavirus infection. The heads of state will also discuss "various aspects of further strengthening of the Russian-Tajik strategic partnership and alliance, including in view of Tajikistan's chairmanship this year in the Collective Security Treaty Organization".
The Kremlin added that on May 9, Rahmon will also attend a military parade on Red Square to mark the 76th anniversary of the victory in the Great Patriotic War.
