Putin and Saudi Crown Prince agreed to coordinate on the oil market

28 May 2020

Vladimir Putin had a telephone conversation with Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia Mohammad bin Salman Al Saud. The main topic of discussion was coordination on the oil market. The parties, according to the Kremlin's press service, stressed the importance of joint efforts to reach agreements in the OPEC+ format on limiting oil production in April 2020.

"They agreed to continue close coordination on this issue between the energy ministries. They also touched on current issues of bilateral cooperation following Vladimir Putin’s visit to Riyadh last October," the message reads in particular.

Also Putin extended his greetings to Mohammad bin Salman Al Saud on Eid al-Fitr (Uraza-Bayram).

On April 12, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and other members of the OPEC+ Alliance agreed to reduce oil production by 9.7 million barrels per day in May-June, 7.7 million in the second half of the year and 5.8 million further until the end of April 2022.

The base of reference is taken in October 2018, but for Russia and Saudi Arabia, 11 million barrels per day are taken, from which, by analogy with all of them, there is a decrease of 23%, 18% and 14%, accordingly.
