Russian President Vladimir Putin has announced that the leaders of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) will hold their traditional end-of-year meeting this December. Additionally, in 2025, they will jointly commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War.
"It is certainly a pleasure to welcome the ambassadors from Belarus, Kyrgyzstan, Armenia, and Azerbaijan here today," said the Russian leader during the credential presentation ceremony with foreign ambassadors at the Kremlin. "These states are Russia's closest neighbors, dearest friends, natural strategic partners, and allies. We just met recently with their leaders in Moscow this past October at the CIS summit. As is our tradition, we will gather again at the end of December to review the year's outcomes and discuss future plans. In 2025, we will together mark the 80th anniversary of our Victory in the Great Patriotic War, a triumph to which the peoples of all the Commonwealth states contributed."
In 2023, the CIS leaders met on December 25 in Saint Petersburg.
The credential presentation ceremony for new foreign ambassadors to the President of Russia took place in the Alexander Hall of the Grand Kremlin Palace, with envoys from 28 countries in attendance.
