Putin appoints new Russian Ambassador to Afghanistan

Russian President Vladimir Putin appointed Dmitry Zhirnov as the Russian Ambassador to Afghanistan. The relevant decree is published on the legal information portal.


"To appoint Dmitry Zhirnov as the Russian Federation's Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan," the document reads.


In another decree, Putin dismissed the former Ambassador to Afghanistan, Alexander Mantytsky, who had been heading the Russian diplomatic mission in Kabul since November 2014.


Earlier this week, Vladimir Putin also appointed a new Russian Ambassador to Egypt. It is Georgy Borisenko, who will simultaneously serve as the Russian Ambassador to the Arab League in Cairo.
