Russian President Vladimir Putin has expressed his anticipation for an official visit from Iranian President Masoud Pesezhkian to Russia, emphasizing the importance of signing a new bilateral treaty between Moscow and Tehran. During a meeting with Ali Akbar Ahmadian, the Secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, Putin noted that he expects Pesezhkian to attend the BRICS Council meeting in Kazan from October 22 to 24.
“We deeply value the fact that cooperation with Russia remains a priority for President Masoud Pesezhkian's administration. We look forward to welcoming him in Kazan for the BRICS summit,” Putin said, adding that he hopes to find time for a bilateral discussion during the event.
Putin mentioned that he had already spoken with the newly elected Iranian president by phone, extending an invitation for a full state visit to Russia. He confirmed that the two leaders plan to sign a “major intergovernmental treaty” during Pesezhkian's visit, marking the formal elevation of Russian-Iranian relations to a strategic partnership.
“I believe we will have the opportunity to discuss this further during our meeting in Kazan,” Putin added.
