Putin begins meeting with Turkmen President in Kremlin

Russian President Vladimir Putin on Friday began talks in the Kremlin with Serdar Berdimuhamedov, whose current visit to Russia is the first official foreign trip as president of  Turkmenistan.

 

Before starting, the two presidents shook hands.


As the Kremlin press service earlier reported, during the talks, a full range of issues of further development of bilateral cooperation in political, trade and economic and humanitarian spheres, as well as current regional and international topics are planned to be discussed. The Russian leader's press secretary Dmitry Peskov noted that Putin will also tell Berdimuhamedov about the special military operation in Ukraine.


At the end of the talks, the presidents are expected to make statements to reporters, but no questions. In addition, a declaration on deepening the strategic partnership between Russia and Turkmenistan will be signed at the meeting.


On March 15, the Turkmen Central Election Commission reported that the early presidential election, held on March 12, Serdar Berdimuhamedov won with 72.97 percent of the vote. Previously the country was headed by his father, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.
