Addressing a meeting of BRICS leaders, Russian President Vladimir Putin affirmed that the member countries - Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa - are united in opposing hegemony and the practice of exclusivity, as well as rejecting neocolonialism.
"We stand in opposition to all forms of hegemony, the exceptionalism promoted by certain nations, and the emerging approach built upon this premise – the strategy of ongoing colonialism, neocolonialism," stated the Russian leader.
Putin extended his gratitude to South Africa for its efforts during its BRICS presidency in 2023. He remarked, "Our collective has rightfully cemented its position on the global stage as a respected entity, whose impact on global matters is progressively growing. The association's strategic trajectory is forward-thinking and aligns with the aspirations of the majority within the international community, often referred to as the world majority," affirmed the Russian president.
As stated by him, by collaborating cohesively on the foundation of equality, mutual interest consideration, and supportive partnership, the BRICS nations are tackling "the most urgent challenges" present on the worldwide and regional agendas. "Of utmost significance is our shared unanimous support for shaping a multipolar global order—one that is genuinely equitable and grounded in international law, upholding the fundamental tenets of the UN Charter. This encompasses the sovereign entitlement and reverence for each nation's right to pursue its distinct development model," underscored the Russian president.
