The Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) is the most important area of Russia's foreign policy, Russian President Vladimir Putin said.
"At today's meeting, at the meeting of the permanent members of the Security Council, let's discuss the situation that is developing on the CIS track. This is one of the most important, if not the most important, area of our work on the foreign policy track." Putin said at a meeting with the permanent members of the Security Council held via video conference.
He noted that the CIS countries are the closest for Russia, "these are the states with which we are connected with a lot - many years, decades, and sometimes even centuries of being in a single state."
"Here we have the most developed economic, cultural, humanitarian ties, kinship and friendship. In general, this is a special area of our work on the foreign policy track. Let us listen to our colleagues in different areas of this work and adjust, if necessary, this work as it is required today, as it will be in demand in the coming year 2021," the President added.
