Putin Calls for Immediate Ceasefire in the Middle East

08 November

Russian President Vladimir Putin has urged an immediate end to hostilities in the Middle East during the plenary session of the Valdai Discussion Club.

“I have said it many times before: any actions must be proportionate to the threat and the situation on the ground. We unequivocally condemn all forms of terrorism. The attack on Israel on October 7 was a terrorist act. However, the response must be proportionate. We must strive to minimize, to zero, the suffering of the Palestinian people. We need to stop the fighting immediately. We must do everything to ensure that both Israel and Palestine agree to this,” Putin said.

The president stressed that the fighting must be stopped immediately.

“We can argue, accuse, and condemn as much as we want, but the most important thing now is to stop the fighting. Immediately. Israel is conducting military operations, and it seems that there is nowhere left to fight. But the fighting continues. Hamas's armed formations are fighting. How long can this go on? And what about the 63,000-strong group, according to our estimates, stationed in southern Lebanon? Troops have entered the southern part of Lebanon, but the main group is still at the border. We cannot allow a tragedy to unfold there,” he added.
