Relations between Russia and the UAE are an important factor in maintaining stability in the region and in the world, Russian President Vladimir Putin said at a meeting with United Arab Emirates President Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan on Tuesday.
"Despite all the complexity of today's relations in the world, relations between Russia and the UAE are an important factor of stability in the region, and, one might say, in the world as a whole," Putin stressed.
He added that he was very happy to see the UAE president. "During 50 years of our diplomatic relations our contacts have developed only progressively, only upwards," said the president of the Russian Federation.
Speaking about bilateral relations between Russia and the UAE, he pointed out that they "are developing very successfully." "Last year the growth of trade turnover was (before the crisis in Ukraine) 65%, and this year, despite all the difficulties, it is still growing - not as much as last year, but nevertheless - 17%," Putin concluded.
He added that it is important for him in general to discuss with the president of the UAE the situation in the region. "A lot of problems remain there, too," the Russian president noted. He stressed that the role and influence of the United Arab Emirates on the situation in the region, "of course, is very high."
Putin thanked his counterpart for the visit and added that he remembers his visit to the UAE in 2019 and will not forget it.
Working within the OPEC+ framework
Russia and the UAE are actively working within the OPEC+ framework, the countries' actions are not directed against anyone, Putin stressed.
"We are actively working within the framework of OPEC+. I know your position, our actions, our decisions are not directed against anyone, we do not do things to create problems for anyone," Putin said.
"Our actions are aimed at creating stability on world energy markets, so that both energy consumers and those involved in production, suppliers to world markets, feel calm, stable and confident, so that both supply and consumption are balanced," the president of the Russian Federation stressed. That is why, according to him, countries always react to market needs and try to do it adequately to current events.
