Russian peacekeepers have become a guarantee of security in Nagorno-Karabakh, they risk their lives to return peaceful life to the region, Russian President Vladimir Putin said.

"Since November 10, Russian peacekeepers began a difficult mission in Nagorno-Karabakh. Their presence has become a guarantee of compliance with the agreements on the cessation of hostilities," Putin said on Monday at an expanded meeting of the Defense Ministry board.

He specified that Russian peacekeepers are doing much to improve the humanitarian situation and help refugees, to demine the territories and restore social infrastructure, to preserve cultural, historical, religious monuments.

"They are risking themselves, unfortunately, not without losses, they are risking their lives so that a peaceful life can return to this land," the president of the Russian Federation stressed.

Putin also said that Russian servicemen in Syria act responsibly and courageously. "In fact, their daily work is the most important factor of stability on Syrian land and in the region as a whole," he pointed out.
