Russian President Vladimir Putin has replaced Russian ambassadors to Iran, Sri Lanka and Maldives and appointed an ambassador to Cape Verde. The corresponding decrees of the head of state were published Thursday on the official portal of legal information.
"To appoint Alexei Yuryevich Dedov as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the Islamic Republic of Iran," reads the text of one of the documents.
Another presidential decree relieved Levan Dzhagaryan of his position as Russian ambassador to Iran. Putin appointed him Russian Ambassador to Sri Lanka and concurrently to the Maldives.
Dzhagaryan replaced Yury Materiy, who will be Russia's ambassador to Cape Verde. In October 2021, Putin appointed Natalya Poklonskaya as ambassador to this country, in January she said that she would not be able to take up such duties due to personal circumstances.
About the ambassadors
Dedov was born in 1960. He has worked in various positions in the central office of the foreign ministry and abroad. In 2004-2009, he served as minister-counsellor of the Russian embassy in Iran and as ambassador to Pakistan.
Dzhagaryan, born in 1957, has been the Russian ambassador to Iran since 2011. Previously, he also worked in various positions at the central office of the ministry of foreign affairs and abroad.
Materiy, born in 1953, has been the Russian ambassador to Sri Lanka and concurrently to the Maldives since 2017. Prior to that, he served as deputy director of the foreign ministry's information and press department.
