Putin commented on sanctions against Syria

23 October 2020

Russian President Vladimir Putin, speaking about the need to lift sanctions during the coronavirus pandemic, recalled the current restrictions on Syrian President Bashar al-Assad: the Russian leader was surprised, and here the leadership of the SAR, when ordinary people suffer, and called for help with humanitarian resources, in particular, money for medicine.

"According to political considerations, they will still publicly say "no, we must keep" some restrictions against Iran, Venezuela, against (Syrian President Bashar) al-Assad. Well, what does Assad have to do with it, if the ordinary people suffer? Give at least medicines, give technology, give at least minimal loans for resources in a targeted way, for medicine. But no," Putin said at a meeting of the Valdai discussion club.
