Russian president Vladimir Putin has congratulated Shavkat Mirziyoyev on his convincing victory in Uzbekistan's presidential election, the Kremlin press service reported on Monday.
"In the course of a telephone conversation <...> Putin warmly congratulated the president of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev on his convincing victory in the presidential election," the statement said. - "The sides confirmed mutual determination to further comprehensive development of the whole range of Russian-Uzbek relations of strategic partnership and alliance".
In addition, Putin sent a telegram to Mirziyoyev, in which he sincerely wished him successes in-state activity, as well as good health and well-being. "The voting results have fully confirmed your high political authority, as well as support for your course aimed at Uzbekistan's socio-economic development and protection of its interests in the international arena," the Russian leader said.
"You make a great personal contribution to the consolidation of relations of strategic partnership and alliance between our countries. I am confident that through our joint efforts we will continue to enhance practical cooperation in various spheres, constructively interact in addressing topical issues of regional and global agenda. This undoubtedly corresponds to the interests of the friendly peoples of Russia and Uzbekistan, and goes in the direction of peace, stability and security in Central Asia," Putin added in his telegram.
Five candidates, including incumbent president Mirziyoyev, ran for president of Uzbekistan. 9925 polling stations were opened in the republic, with about 19.9 million people on the voter list. More than 1,000 international observers monitored the process. Sergei Lebedev, chairman of the CIS Executive committee and executive secretary, said that Sunday's elections were free and democratic and that candidates were given good opportunities to a campaign.
