Russian President Vladimir Putin congratulated Russian Muslims on Kurban Bayram, noting that the holiday draws believers to the values of Islam and calls for mercy and justice, the Kremlin press service reported.
"This ancient holiday, the roots of which go back centuries, appeals to the roots and values of Islam, calls for mercy, justice and piety, caring and cordial attitude towards others. These high humanistic and moral ideals, underlying all the world's religions, serve as a powerful unifying force, contributing to strengthening international harmony in society and preserving the cultural diversity and distinctive traditions of our people," the statement says.
The Feast of Sacrifice Kurban Bayram (in Turkic) or Eid al-Adha (in Arabic) is one of the main holidays of Muslims. It is celebrated on the tenth day of the Dhul-Hijjah month of the Islamic lunar calendar and lasts three days. Every year the date of the holiday changes, in 2021 Kurban Bayram begins on July 20.
