Russian President Vladimir Putin sent Turkmen President Serdar Berdymukhamedov congratulations on the 30th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic relations between the states, noting the development of cooperation in the political, trade and economic, energy and humanitarian spheres.
"Relying on the good traditions of friendship and mutual respect that connect our peoples, we have managed to bring interstate cooperation to the level of strategic partnership over the past decades. Bilateral cooperation is developing dynamically in political, trade and economic, energy, humanitarian and many other spheres," reads the telegram published on the Kremlin website on Friday.
The president expressed confidence that the countries will ensure that the partnership will continue to build up in all directions. Putin stressed that this fully meets the interests of the friendly nations and "goes in line with the strengthening of security and stability in Central Asia and the Caspian Sea".
Diplomatic relations between Russia and Turkmenistan were established on April 8, 1992. The bilateral cooperation has been actively developing through joint efforts for 30 years. Having become independent, the states have managed to preserve the friendship and mutual trust that existed since the times of the Soviet Union. It is proved, for example, by the fact that up to 1994, armed forces of Turkmenistan were part of the Russian army and were under the joint Russian-Turkmen command, and the state border with neighboring Iran and Afghanistan was guarded by Russian border guards.
