Russia attaches great importance to strengthening allied relations with Uzbekistan, Russian leader Vladimir Putin said in a telegram to his Uzbek counterpart Shavkat Mirziyoyev on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the republic's independence.

"Your country is confidently advancing along the path of economic and social development, enjoys well-deserved authority on the world stage and plays a constructive role in regional and international affairs," the Kremlin press service said in the congratulatory message, which was distributed on Wednesday.

"Putin stressed that Russia attaches great importance to strengthening relations of strategic partnership and alliance between the two countries, as well as building up fruitful cooperation in all directions," the press service noted.

"This fully meets the interests of the friendly peoples of Russia and Uzbekistan and goes in line with ensuring security and stability in Central Asia," the president added.
