Russia expects that international organizations will take part in the process of further settlement of the conflict in Nagorno-Karabakh, Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Tuesday at a ceremony for presenting foreign ambassadors’ credentials in the Kremlin.
According to him, in Karabakh, "the situation, in general, will stabilize, the Russian humanitarian response center starts its work, which will provide assistance to residents of the affected areas, restore infrastructure, create conditions for a normal, peaceful life".
"We look forward to the meaningful participation of relevant international organizations in this effort. We believe that all this creates prerequisites for the long-term and comprehensive settlement of the long-standing conflict on a fair basis, in the interests of the Azerbaijani and Armenian peoples," the Russian leader said.
Putin noted that Russia made considerable efforts to stop the hostilities in Nagorno-Karabakh, which resulted in the death of thousands of Azerbaijani and Armenian citizens. In doing so, Moscow followed key agreements reached with the OSCE Minsk Group, including its co-chairs - Russia, the United States and France. "The main thing we managed to achieve was to stop the bloodshed, to fix a truce in the trilateral statement of the leaders of Russia and Azerbaijan and Armenia," Putin said.
The President reminded that currently a Russian peacekeeping contingent was sent to the region to monitor the ceasefire, ensure the security of civilians, accompany returning refugees and humanitarian cargoes.
