27 December 2021

Russian President Vladimir Putin discussed with Tajik President Emomali Rahmon migration flows from Tajikistan to Russia and noted the need to study the Russian language.

"I know your attention and concern for the development of the Russian language, it is developing very well with your support. There are a lot of people who want to learn the Russian language. This is understandable, because there are about a million people from Tajikistan living and working in Russia today on a temporary basis," Putin said.

According to the Russian president, "the year before last they brought home about $1 billion 800 million, and last year, due to the pandemic, the number of working people decreased, somewhere around $1 billion 700 million."

"But as we agreed, you and I are addressing these migration flows in order to support the economy of Tajikistan and the people. Well, our industry, the economy as a whole, the construction sector are interested in attracting qualified and hardworking people," the Russian president said.

Putin noted that learning the Russian language is the surest way for people to adapt, so they can work comfortably.
