Russian President Vladimir Putin discussed by phone with his Iranian counterpart Ebrahim Raisi the prospects for resuming implementation of the Iranian nuclear deal, the Kremlin press service reported on Wednesday.

"The parties discussed prospects for resuming implementation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action on the Iranian nuclear program," the statement said. It is also noted that both sides expressed satisfaction with the achieved level of Russian-Iranian relations.

The presidents also discussed the implementation of major joint projects and interaction in the fight against the pandemic. "The main topics of the bilateral agenda were considered, including the implementation of major joint projects in the trade and economic sphere, as well as interaction in the fight against the spread of coronavirus infection," the report points out.

In addition, Putin congratulated Raisi on his victory in the recent presidential election and his assumption of office.

The current phone conversation with Putin was the first for Raisi since he was elected president of Iran in June. Raisi took the oath of office and officially assumed office on August 5.
