Putin discussed the situation in Afghanistan with Xi Jinping

Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping have expressed in a telephone conversation their willingness to step up efforts to combat the threats of terrorism and drug trafficking from the territory of Afghanistan, the Kremlin press service reported on Wednesday.


"The Afghan problems were discussed at length. The sides expressed readiness to step up efforts to fight terrorist and drug trafficking threats emanating from the territory of Afghanistan. The two leaders stressed the importance of rapidly establishing peace in that country and preventing the spread of instability into neighboring regions. For this purpose it is planned to use the potential of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization," the press release reads.


"The leaders also agreed to intensify bilateral contacts and close coordination, first of all, through foreign policy agencies," the press service added.
