Putin discussed the situation in Idlib with the Russian Security Council

Russian President Vladimir Putin held an meeting with permanent members of the Russian Security Council. One of the main topics of discussion was the situation in the Syrian province of Idlib.


"There was a thorough exchange of views in connection with the tense situation around Idlib caused by the activity of terrorist groups", Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov told reporters.


The meeting was attended by Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin, Federation Council Speaker Valentina Matvienko, Deputy Chairman of the Security Council Dmitry Medvedev, Security Council Secretary Nikolai Patrushev, Interior Minister Vladimir Kolokoltsev, Defense Minister Sergey Shoygu, FSB Director Alexander Bortnikov, head of the Foreign Intelligence Service Sergey Naryshkin, and others.


On February 3, Turkey said that as a result of artillery fire from the Syrian army in Idlib, eight Turkish soldiers were killed.


On February 10, five Turkish soldiers were killed in shelling in the province by the Syrian army. In response, the Turkish armed forces fired at 115 Syrian army targets and neutralized more than a hundred Syrian military personnel.
