Putin discussed with the Prime Minister of Iraq the situation in Syria and the stabilization of the oil market

Russian President Vladimir Putin held telephone talks with Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa Kazemi. The main topics of discussion were the situation in the Middle East and bilateral cooperation.


In particular, according to the Kremlin's press service, the two leaders agreed to continue coordinating steps to ensure long-term normalization in Syria.


"During the exchange of views on regional issues, the main focus was on the Syrian settlement. In particular, it was agreed to further coordinate steps to ensure long-term normalization of the situation in the Syrian Arab Republic, restore its sovereignty and territorial integrity," the message reads.

 

The two heads of state also touched upon cooperation in order to stabilize the world market of hydrocarbons.

 

"A positive assessment was given to the agreements reached with the participation of Russia and Iraq in the OPEC+ format aimed at overcoming the acute phase of the oil crisis. The importance of continuing effective joint efforts in this direction was noted, " the message reads.

 

In addition, Putin and Kazemi expressed their intention to develop traditionally friendly ties between the two countries.


"In addition to the telegram sent earlier, Vladimir Putin once again congratulated Mustafa Kazemi on taking office as head of the government of Iraq. The parties expressed a mutual desire for the progressive development of traditionally friendly relations between the two states. A number of topical issues of bilateral cooperation in the trade, economic and energy spheres were considered, " the Kremlin's press service reports.

 

Russian President Vladimir Putin also congratulated Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa Kazemi and the Iraqi people on Eid al-Fitr.


"Vladimir Putin also congratulated the Prime Minister of Iraq and the Iraqi people on the Eid al-Fitr holiday. An agreement has been reached to continue contacts at various levels, " the message concluded.
